It is absolutely not a shocking statement to say that people love Pyrex dishes. There is a cult-like obsession with many vintage patterns, especially the ones that are no longer for sale in stores. People are willing to shell out hundreds of dollars on eBay to get a vintage dish from the ’50s. If you’ve watched “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” chances are you’ve spotted one of the more recently coveted Pyrex dishes.

On the hit Amazon series, Miriam “Midge” Maisel has a pink Pyrex casserole dish. The dish is almost like a character on the show, as it holds a very important role in the first episode. Midge drunkenly goes back to the Gaslight Cafe to get it. In doing so, she winds up getting on stage, and thus her brilliant stand-up comedy finally gets a chance to shine.

Since it first appeared, fans of the show have voiced their love for the dish. According to Southern Living, an eagle-eyed fan, who runs a blog titled The Closet of Mrs. Maisel, actually figured out what dish Midge has. It is a Pink Daisy oval casserole dish, but actually, the pattern was really introduced by Corning as the White Daisy pattern in 1956. This Pyrex dish fits in perfectly with the rest of Midge’s pink and white kitchenware. The series takes place two years later, beginning in 1958. The blogger, The Closet of Mrs. Maisel, theorizes that it wasn’t a wedding gift, based on when Midge and Joel were married and suggests that Midge bought it for herself.

Pyrex was first introduced in 1915 by Corning Inc. and they were made with low-thermal-expansion borosilicate glass and it was initially used for laboratory glassware and kitchenware. Later on, it was expanded to include clear and opal ware products that were made out of soda-lime glass. It was in the ’30s and ’40s that Corning Inc. introduced Pyrex dishes meant for baking. These dishes became so popular because they can resist extreme changes in temperature and the glass does not expand – perfect for baking a casserole at 400°. Corning Inc. introduced many patterns that were a hit over the years, including their Butterprint pattern, Daisy pattern (which came in various colors), Dots or New Dots pattern, Gooseberry Pattern, and more.

The Pink Daisy Pyrex was only sold from 1956 to 1962. If you’re dying for your own vintage Pyrex, you actually can buy one that looks like Midge’s dish. Pyrex no longer sells this pattern anymore, but in 2019, you can find vintage items just about anywhere on the internet. You can purchase this daisy pattern on eBay or Etsy.

There are different listings currently on eBay for this dish, varying in prices between $44 and $104, with bids increasing the price as each day goes by.

  • This 2 1/2 Qt dish with a lid has 9 bids already but currently sits at $44
  • You can bid on this oval casserole dish which currently is sitting at $83, with 8 other bids on it
  • This dish only has one bid (but a high shipping price) and is currently listed at$65

This Pyrex pattern is also available on Etsy in other styles, not the exact oval shape seen on “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” but other sizes.

  • You can get a 13×9 Pink Daisy Pyrex Space Saver for $45, though be warned it does have a bit of baked on grease and a chip in one corner
  • One Etsy seller has this pattern available in an oval serving dish for only $20.10
  • If you want the space saver casserole dish in this pattern, with a clear glass lid, you can get it from this Etsy seller for $87.08

If you have your own Pyrex dishes at home that you’re willing to part ways with, you can actually get some decent money by selling them online. According to an NPR report, some savvy people have been able to sell their vintage Pyrex dishes for $3,000. Not every dish will sell for even a ⅛ of that, but a couple extra hundred bucks are something to consider!

Now, maybe you’re also equally obsessed with “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” as you are Pyrex dishes. One Apartment Therapy writer was actually inspired to decorate her entire new apartment based solely on this vintage Pyrex dish from the show.
