I Tried These Compact Dishwasher Cubes, and Now My Dishes Sparkle
When it comes to cleaning products, I’ve done my best to search for the most sustainable, effective finds. Cleaning products with natural or sustainable ingredients often get a bad reputation for not working as efficiently as their chemical counterparts. Thankfully, I stumbled upon some naked (aka plastic-free) dishwasher cubes that cleaned my dishes just as well as, if not better than, the conventional gel pods.
What Is Nellie’s Dish Cubed?
Nellie’s Dish Cubed are premeasured powder dish detergent cubes that are PVA-free, which means they do not have polyvinyl alcohol, a type of dissolvable plastic often found as a wrapper for dishwasher and laundry detergent pods. Although this material is useful for holding gel or liquid concentrate, it’s not always necessary for powder tablets.
Best of all, Nellie’s Dish Cubed are made with non-toxic ingredients, including citric acid, sodium carbonate, and sodium sulfate, which all have an A rating from the EWG.
Why I Recommend Them
I used one of these cubes in a nearly full dishwasher load and was hoping it could clean the stuck-on food on a couple of bowls and get rid of the pungent scent of lox on one plate. I was impressed to find that not only did it thoroughly clean every dish, but it also got rid of those lingering odors.
Even my glassware was sparkling, which is not something conventional dishwasher pods can always do. I was also pleased that, unlike loose dishwasher powder, there was no residue in the dispenser compartment.
Due to its “naked” nature, it’s important to handle Nellie’s Dish Cubed with dry hands and store them in a cool, dry place. Although these are more expensive than traditional dishwasher pods and tablets, I believe that the expense is worth it for anyone who wants clean ingredients and even cleaner dishes.
