You Can “Remove” Wood Paneling Without Actually Removing It, According to TikTok
Wood paneling is a divisive design feature. While some people can embrace the paneling and make it work with their aesthetic, some feel it just has to go.
One TikToker named Grace (@_grace.ws_) found a clever way to get rid of the wood paneling in her room without having to demo anything, and though it’s a bit time-consuming, this process could really cut down on the amount of work you’d have to do if you ripped the wood paneling out altogether.
Grace took to TikTok to share that she was going to go live while filling in the cracks of her wood paneling with spackle. “I’m spackling this wall that’s wood paneling so I can make it flat so I can paint it like I did this wall,” she said, panning over to an incredible mural she painted on the opposite wall.
Of course, viewers needed to know more about the process and how the spackling turned out. So Grace (a.k.a. “Bobitha the Builder”) came back to TikTok to show off her hard work.
“We got the whole wall spackled…It took about two to three hours,” she said, adding that she plans to do a second or third layer of spackle before she sands the wall smooth.
And the “removal” process appears to work. As Grace shows in her videos, the murals painted on her walls look just as smooth as if they were painted on bare walls.
So if you’re tired of your wood panelling, just pick up a tub of spackle and get filling.
