This Secondhand Score Went from “Lackluster” to Full of Character and Color — in Just One Afternoon
Some of the most impactful DIYs can also be some of the simplest. And who doesn’t love the instant gratification of a quick project?
As real estate agents, interior designers, and all-around creative folks, Ashley and Jamin Mills see the potential in just about any space — and just about anything in it! So when they spotted an online listing for a secondhand antique wine bar, they knew it could become stylish poolside storage for their Nashville home. With a little twist, of course.
“Our pool area is a really fun place, and we love pieces that are high-functioning with a lot of character,” Ashley and Jamin say. “This piece had a fun shape but was a little lackluster in personality.” They decided to paint it a color with major presence: Stops Rust Custom Spray 5-in-1 by Rust-Oleum in Satin Sapphire.
Custom Spray 5-in-1 has a clever adjustable dial with five spray settings for a smooth application, whatever the project. Ashley and Jamin used the #5 Horizontal Fan setting, which is designed for tall items, on the cart’s legs and frame.
To get even coverage on the shelves, they switched to the #4 Vertical Fan setting, which is designed for long, flat surfaces.
“Stops Rust with Custom Spray 5-in-1 is the first spray paint in a can we’ve used that was truly user-friendly and simple,” Ashley and Jamin say. “The multiple options are specifically tailored to the use and job that you need. The results were smooth and satisfying.”
Now that the makeover is complete, Ashley and Jamin have a stylish place to stash towels and sunscreen (and serve a round of poolside cocktails).
“We’ve only had it a week, but anyone who comes over asks about it,” they say. “It’s a great example of how a fresh coat of paint can give something an entirely new life.”
