Pottery Barn Launched a Collection with the Black Artists + Designers Guild, and It’s Inspired by Black Joy

Today Pottery Barn has released its first collection in partnership with the Black Artists + Designers Guild (BADG), a non-profit combating the lack of representation of Black talent and culture in the design industry. The two entities have worked together before, with Pottery Barn serving as a corporate sponsor of BADG’s Obsidian Experience, a virtual concept house launched in early 2021 to ignite new conversations around the Black family home. “This partnership with Pottery Barn builds on our mission to honor ancestral legacies while embracing liberatory creative practices,” BADG founder Malene Barnett said in a press release about the line. “We love creating spaces to celebrate Black culture in design, and our collection invites everyone to celebrate with us.”

To create the collection, the Pottery Barn design team partnered with three interior designers and members of BADG: Penny Francis and Casi St. Julian of the New Orleans-based design firm Eclectic Home and Lisa Turner of the Beverly Hills-based design firm Interior Obsession. Riffing on the idea of “Black Joy” and focusing on gatherings and celebrations, the women came together to put a unique, vibrant spin on the offerings, which range from decorative accessories and textiles to dinnerware and even games.

The underlying color palette for the collection is bold and bright, marking an exciting departure from the neutrals Pottery Barn is often associated with, but there’s really something for everyone in this range. The tabletop designs are particularly striking. Shaped from mouth-blown ribbed glass with a laser-cut metal base, the Unity Hurricane makes for a striking centerpiece, while the Unity Handcrafted Wire Serving Bowl would be an ideal countertop accessory for fresh fruit. The Triumphant Vases (pictured above) feature gorgeous hand-applied, wax resistant geometric patterns that’ll give your shelfie or coffee table a whole new look. The line also features decorative woven chargers and napkin rings handmade by artisans in Eswatini in Southern Africa.

As part of the BADG x Pottery Barn collection launch, over 25 home decor pieces will be available starting today, both online and in stores throughout the US and Canada. Pieces from the collection range in price from $29.50 to $249.
