This season, we’re setting our clocks way back: to the 1970s. Our favorite design trend of the fall is inspired by that dreamy decade’s desert hues, earthy materials, and sun-baked vibes. It takes that nostalgic charm and gives it a modern twist, for a fresh and timeless style that can work in just about every room — which is exactly what we did.

We styled five spaces in our favorite furniture and decor from this season, all sourced from a place that might surprise you: Walmart. With on-trend brands like Noble House, Novogratz, and Beautiful by Drew Barrymore, Walmart’s fresh selection of retro-styled furniture and decor inspired us so much that we styled an entire lookbook of our favorite pieces. See some of our favorite highlights below.

Living Room

Texture, texture, texture! Everything from the snuggly bouclé chair to the natural woven rattan makes this room feel earthy and alive. And we feel like we’re deep in the California canyons thanks to the rich color palette of rusty oranges, warm wood tones, and oceanic blues and greens.

Entryway

Now this is a welcome home. Organic touches like ceramic vases and luscious greenery add an organic retro spirit. And a touch of timeless mid-century modern — like an open-slat sideboard and that stunning peel-and-stick wallpaper — feels contemporary.

Dining Room

Delicious style is served here. Organic, evocative shapes are a hallmark of ’70s design, and this sculptural dining table and chairs pay beautiful homage. An almost-shag area rug adds cozy texture and modern flair.

Vanity

We don’t know when every bedroom stopped having a vanity, but we’re glad they’re back. This one features plenty of sleek storage and lighting worthy of a Broadway dressing room. A mixed-pile area rug with an arch design adds softness and warmth.

Kitchen

For the heart of the house, we’re taking a cue from the homey vibes of ’70s style and giving it a modern upgrade. Update small appliances like kettles and stand mixers in a saturated, matte color palette that’s evocative of the era. (Side note: If you think these pieces have a certain bubbly happiness you’re not used to seeing electrical appliances, that’s probably because they’re from Beautiful by Drew Barrymore, Drew’s line of home goods now available only at Walmart.) Add in smoked glassware and plenty of ceramics, then cook up something cozy.
