Ask anyone to describe their dream kitchen (real or fantasy), and they'll most likely list an island as one of the required features. An additional surface for meal prep, a congregation hub during parties, a place to eat — what's not to love about the kitchen island?

Aside from its multi-functionality, the island can also act as a visual centerpiece for the entire room. So, we decided to pay it its due respect. We turned to Dutch Boy for a simple way to jazz up the basic island into something more personalized and eye-catching.

The island pictured here has been painted with Dutch Boy Cabinet & Trim Paint in Antiquated Lace 017W for a charmingly warm finish. The porcelain-like finish of this paint fits seamlessly into the kitchen space.

You'll Need:

  • Dutch Boy Cabinet & Trim Paint (your choice of color)
  • Angled paintbrush
  • Mini woven roller cover and roller frame
  • Mini trays
  • Screwdriver
  • Level
  • Paint project tools (painter's tape; drop cloth; clean, damp cloth)
  • Instructions:

    1. Remove any doors, drawers, and cabinet hardware from your island if necessary. Wipe down with clean, damp cloth.
    2. Lay down drop cloth to protect floors.
    3. Affix painter's tape underneath the countertop.
    4. Use the painter's tape to paint hard-to-reach areas first. Then paint the rest with the mini woven roller. Paint any drawers or doors separately, if applicable.
    5. Remove painter's tape while paint is still damp. Allow paint to dry, following suggested dry times on paint can label.
    6. Paint an optional second coat for added durability.
    7. Reattach door, drawers, and cabinet hardware if necessary.
