​There’s something about the wonder and freedom of being a kid that draws us to poppy colors and fun designs—before we start worrying about what’s “right” or “on trend.” Child-inspired decor is trending for 2020, from doodle patterns to whimsical animal accents.

My space was inspired by the Ramones’ version of the Tom Waits song “I Don’t Wanna Grow Up”. I designed the room around a u-shaped sectional big enough to fit a dozen friends and loaded it with colorful pillows, hoping it would inspire bringing out your "inner child" and building a sofa fort—and then getting grounded because you colored on your walls with magic markers.
