Boring bedrooms are one of the biggest challenges of renting an apartment. Whether you’re dealing with a serious lack of storage or a strict landlord who won’t let you hang anything on the walls, creating a bedroom that feels personalized, peaceful, and secure is so important in unsure times. And the solutions to these problems might be right under your nose (or head!).

Value City Furniture™ is one of our favorite sources for beds that are more than just a place to snooze. (And they deliver, too!) We took a look at four common rental bedroom problems and found four beds that are just right to solve them.

Problem #1: Not Enough Storage

Even if your rental includes a walk-in closet the size of a studio, who couldn’t use extra bedroom storage? The Hazel Storage Bed is a lifesaver for those of us who need a little extra space for off-season clothes, linens, or anything else, really. Two spacious cedar-lined drawers are built into the bed’s base to store, protect, and freshen clothes or linens. The bed’s textured finish gives it a vintage feel while helping to hide everyday wear and tear. If you have pets or kids, this is a definite plus.

Problem #2: Not Durable Enough

The thing about renters is we tend to move a lot. If you’re accustomed to moving apartments once a year (or more), then you’ve probably realized that most affordable beds don’t stand up to multiple moves very well. Enter: the Harrison Bed. Unlike most of its competitors at a similar price point, The Harrison is built with sturdy pine wood for durability. It’s easy to assemble — and disassemble when it’s time to move. Like the Hazel, its natural finish has a subtle washed look to add some character. It also helps disguise the scratches and dings that inevitably come along with packing up your life and moving to a new place again.

Problem #3: You Can’t Hang Anything on the Walls

Not being able to hang anything on the walls can be one of the biggest drawbacks of renting. If you can’t hang art, you can add personality in other ways, like dressing up your bed. Start with the Charleston Poster Storage Bed. With paneled detailing, turned wooden legs, and pewter hardware, it’s an instant classic with charm to spare. Add a colorful quilt and some stylish throw pillows and your bed will be all the art your room needs. Plus, it has four drawers for extra storage, which is never a bad thing.

Problem #4: You’re Lacking a Vibe

If painting, customizing lighting, or hanging art on the wall aren’t options in your rental, look to your bed to steal the style show. The Sabrina is the perfect example. With a textured shagreen headboard framed with beveled mirrors and crystal button tufting, this bed has no shortage of glam. It also features remote-controlled LED lighting on its headboard that can change colors to suit your mood, day or night.
