Call it a party, a gathering, a group hang, a whatever: Having people over makes us (and our homes) happy. Do it in the summer, though, and everything just comes alive. Something about the glow of string lights and the background noise of sizzling skewers makes all of summer’s sweat and steam so worth it. Memorial Day (yep, it’s here) is exactly the excuse to put in the little bit of effort of setting up the outdoor space so the rest of the season is nothing but chill time. And what perfect timing: Home Decorators Collection at The Home Depot® just announced select items in their collection are now on sale! We’ve parsed through the collection and pulled out some highlights.

Bringing in some new colors and patterns is one of the quickest ways to summerize your gathering spaces. Outdoors, the umbrella will probably become the de facto focal point of a patio party, so a new one will go a long way in transforming a space. The cheerful Maxim Regatta Sunbrella fabric is a good one if you’re going for that just-off-the-beach-in-Capri look.

If your outdoor furniture is worse for the wear after the winter, learn what to look for. Shop for sets that are made from all-weather hardwoods, such as the Bermuda Patio Dining Set made from eucalyptus (don’t worry, it’s eco-friendly). You get what you pay for here, and a quality wood will last significantly longer than the cheap stuff.

Wicker, of course, was made for the outdoors since it’s quick-drying and also easy to move. But it doesn’t have to look like Grandma’s patio. The Lake Adela Patio Dining Set and Naples Patio Seating Set are good examples; both have a modern silhouette yet are made from the same all-weather wicker and topped with comfy cushions that will feel nice as the party reaches peak chill.

Wicker can also work (surprisingly, in some cases) to bring summer vibes indoors — which comes in handy when rain forces the cookout to find a last-minute venue change. Paired with larger upholstered furniture, the woven texture of wicker lightens up a space while giving it an al fresco feel. The Genie Club Chair is the perfect example. Lighter weight fabrics like the natural twill slipcover of the Mayfair Sofa also help give indoor spaces a breezy, coastal feel.

Even if your style is less beach house and more old-school gentlemen’s club, there are ways to bring in some summer. Pairing an accent chair upholstered in floral or toile will bring a little bit of the garden into your space and will help lighten up the mood of a room without straying too far from a classic look. (The handsome sofa pictured next to it, by the way, is the Gordon Blue Leather Sofa.)
