The Best Way to Close Off Any Vent

Remember when we discussed whether or not it's OK to close off air vents to unused rooms? The answer was that, yeah, it's OK to do—in moderation. But do you know the most effective way to close off those air vents? Here's a quick trick that will have your vent sealed up in no time—all you need to do is make a trip to the craft store.

Think you need a screwdriver or super-tiny fingers to shut down your extra, extra bedroom for the winter? Nope. Just head down to your local craft store and pick up a sheet of this:

"What's that?," you ask?

It's a sheet magnet. The same kind that football fans everywhere tag onto their cars with their team's logo every Sunday afternoon.

"How can that close my vent for me?," you ask?

Well, my little curious cat, just cut your sheet roughly to the size of your vent and stick it straight on top.

Even if you're lucky enough to have one of those fancy vents that have flaps that close down at the pull of a tiny little lever, the sheet magnet will close it off even tighter. Your warm air has no choice but to make it down to you in the master bedroom.
