This DIY Queen Shows Us How a Smart Home Can Be a Stylish One in Her Atlanta Townhouse
Name: Camille, husband Jack, and son Easton
Location: Atlanta
Size: 2,250 square feet
Type of home: Townhome
Years lived in: 1.5 years (owned)
Camille Dobbins-Jackson’s very first DIY didn’t just change her home — it changed her whole career. She wanted to create a show-stopping foyer in the airy Atlanta townhome she shares with her husband and son: complete with new moulding, elegant lighting, and a museum-style gallery of family portraits. Her vision was too expensive to hire out, so Camille picked up some tools and got to work. Now, not only does she have the foyer of her dreams, but she also has 80,000 Instagram followers and a brand new path as a DIY creator. With a little resourcefulness, Camille was able to spend her money with mindfulness while creating an undeniably beautiful home.
The entryway’s crisp white walls and lush black-and-white portraits, including the couple’s wedding photos, hint at the contemporary, comfortable vibe within. “It tells a story about my home, and it’s a great icebreaker,” she says. “It’s an inviting way to welcome people in and helps them get to know us.”
With Camille and Jack both working from home, plus little Easton on the move, it was important to Camille to create a space that felt calm — and well-connected. On any given day, Jack might be taking video meetings and gaming after work while Camille streams music and edits video content or uploads her latest projects to social media. Plus, Camille and Jack use smart-home devices like light bulbs and plugs to make their daily lives a little easier.
As soon as they moved in, Camille and Jack set up AT&T Fiber to keep all of those devices running efficiently, day or night. With AT&T Fiber, Camille and Jack stay connected throughout their home without sacrificing bandwidth. With a smooth connection across her security system, garage door opener, and personal devices, Camille also gets an assist on everything from planning a new project to unloading her supplies. And with the AT&T SmartHome Manager app, she can monitor her devices, adjust bandwidth usage, and give guest access to coworkers and visitors.
No stranger to staying on budget in style (see: the clever DIYs), Camille chose AT&T Fiber for its straightforward pricing — no price increase at 12 months, no data caps, and no monthly equipment fees, to name a few. And that makes it so much simpler to keep a home on its budget.
Camille’s striking townhouse shows in bold, contemporary black-and-white how tech and style can live together comfortably under one roof. A well-connected home is a beautiful home.
Apartment Therapy Survey
My style: Comfortable Contemporary
Inspiration: The inspiration for my home is to keep things peaceful and comfortable. I hope that everyone who enters my home feels a sense of peace when coming in. I played with textures and patterns to add interest to my all-white space. One of my favorite designers is Shea McGee from Studio McGee. She started her design business from the ground up, and her story is so inspiring. I love how comfortable yet contemporary her spaces feel. She has a great way of making a space beautiful while keeping the functionality a family needs.
Favorite element: The custom woodwork throughout my home is my favorite element.
Biggest challenge: My biggest challenge is the space in our townhome. Our townhome is stunning and I am happy with the finishing, but the storage is not great. I have had to create zones to house Easton’s toys and add cabinets in the living room to store them.
What friends say: Upon entering my home my friends instantly say, “Your place is stunning! How do you keep everything so white and clean?”
Biggest embarrassment: My biggest embarrassment is 100 percent that once I complete a project I get bored with it and want to change it! I love design and I have so many ideas, so I constantly want to change things!
Biggest indulgence: Our stunning island pendants.
Proudest DIY: My foyer is my proudest DIY! It was a true labor of love and it was the first DIY project I have ever done.
Best advice: My best advice is to GO FOR IT! I let fear stop me from pursuing my dreams for years. But the moment I went, for it my life changed. The love I have received has been surreal. Honestly, knowing that I am inspiring women to follow their dreams or simply to try their hand at DIY means the world to me.
How does AT&T Fiber help you in your home: AT&T Fiber has been a game changer for our home! I film long-form videos and edit content daily, and having reliable internet is crucial to not only myself but to my husband as well. Jack works in tech, and oftentimes he’s juggling a lot of work. He has a large team in the States and overseas, so he is constantly on calls. With us having a three-level townhome, our AT&T Fiber Wi-Fi extenders have allowed us to both work seamlessly.
