The first rule of Halloween decorating: Have as much fun as possible. The season of candy and costumes is a time for going big. All that stuff in your craft closet? Now is its time to shine.

This statement-making spiderweb is a fun and easy way to welcome all your favorite ghouls and goblins. The yarn web comes together quickly and stays in place all season long no matter where you decide to put it, all thanks to Command™ Brand Products. With innovative adhesive strips, Command hooks, clips, and organizational products let you decorate and organize without damaging walls or paint. Here’s how they helped bring this eerie idea to life.

Supplies

1. Create the Base of the Web

Cut two pieces of yarn to your desired length: one for the center circle and one for the first set of “legs” that extend out vertically from the center. Knot the ends of the first piece to create a circle. Then slide the circle onto the other length of string, as if you were feeding a charm onto a necklace. The circle will become the center of your web, and the long strings will become web “legs,” adding structure and dimension to the design. (You’ll add more “legs” soon.)

2. Position the Web on the Wall

Position these two “legs” against the wall to make a V shape, then use Command Clear Round Cord Clips to secure them in place. These small, versatile clips won’t distract from your desired look. (Bonus re-use: After this DIY you can reuse them to corral tech cords!) Make sure to follow the package instructions: Clean your surface with rubbing alcohol. Press the adhesive strip in place for 30 seconds, then attach the clip and press it in place for 30 seconds. Wait one hour before use. When it’s time to attach the yarn, tie a small knot at the end of each string to secure it to the clip.

Then decide where you want the center of your web to be, and tape the circle in place with ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape. Designed for use on multiple surfaces, this iconic blue tape holds strong and removes cleanly, without any sticky residue, so you can easily remove it when you’re done. It’s ideal for keeping the design in place until you’re done.

3. Add More “Legs”

Repeat the previous step with additional lengths of string, feeding them through the center circle, arranging in V shapes, and securing with Command™ Cord Clips. To add irregularity and asymmetry, incorporate single legs by knotting one end of string around the center circle. You’re going for a full sunburst effect, but don’t worry about being too exact. Remove the ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape from the center circle.

4. Weave the Outer Rings of the Web

Weave one long piece of string through all the “legs” you’ve just created. Make a loop around each one before you move on to the next: This will keep the design from shifting as you build the web. Once you complete the ring around the web, secure that string around the nearest vertical piece with a small knot.

Repeat this step to create additional rings. For a more realistic look, keep your rings closer together toward the center, then looser as you move outward.

5. Decorate the Web

Once you have a finished web, it’s time to get creative! Adorn your web with the fairy lights. Adhere a Command clip holder to the battery pack, then clip on your toy spiders to hide the battery pack. Finish the look with creepy crawlies that have been “caught” in the web.

This spiderweb design can easily scale up or down to suit your wall, door, or other surface. You can even follow the same steps to build a partial web in a corner for a subtly spooky effect — anything your imagination can dream up!
