Why we have a crush on this property

A few years ago, there was a sudden thirst for all things mid-century modern. MCM-style furniture, for one, became highly sought after (and still is!). While there’s nothing wrong with a Danish modern table from a big-box retailer, it’s quite a different experience to have the real thing. That’s how I feel about this dazzling mid-century modern house for sale outside of Atlanta. It’s chock full of original details, art, and furniture, practically making it a work of art in its own right.

Designed by architect Thomas E. Garner and built in 1952, the Decatur home almost looks as if it should belong in Palm Springs, the capital of all things MCM. Inside, it’s been restored to its ‘50s glory, retaining original features like interior shutters, a Herman Miller sideboard, parquet floors, Cole & Son retro foil wallpaper, and a Lucite Scolari chandelier.

Soaring ceilings make the dining area feel extra spacious, while in the living room, a teak accent wall and an exposed brick fireplace bring warmth to the space. The main living area has sliding glass doors that lead out to the property’s bluestone patio — an area that steals the show. There, a pool that looks like it was pulled from the pages of a Slim Aarons photography book, is accented by a lush, professionally designed landscape with rock gardens.

Other perks include a beautifully updated kitchen with quartz countertops, a breakfast bar, a butler’s pantry, and Sub-Zero refrigerated drawers. There are new brass fixtures and heated tile in the bathrooms, too, not to mention four huge bedrooms with high ceilings.
