A 187-Square-Feet Converted School Bus Amazingly Fits a Family of Four
Name: Hannah Hernandez and husband, daughter (2.5 years old), son (9 months old), chihuahua
Location: Winter Spring, Florida
Type of home: School bus conversion
Size: 187 square feet
Years lived in: 2 years, owned
Hannah and her family graciously offered to give Apartment Therapy a video tour of their amazing 187-square-foot school bus they converted themselves. It was a great home for the family and the skoolie life clearly agreed with them: they have recently sold this bus and are working on their second conversion!
Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: Our home consists of 4 humans: Ian, Hannah, Nora (2.5 years old), and Atlas (9 months old), and one chihuahua named Girlie. Our home has been designed and built (by us) to fit our needs.
Some unique features in our home are a crib, a macramé bassinet, a farmhouse style kitchen with American Maple butcher block, an apron front sink, and floating shelf that holds a variety of decor that we thrift on our travels. We also have a washer/dryer, 2400 watts of solar power making us completely off-grid friendly, and a large amount of fitness equipment on board!
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Bold, unique, thrifted style.
What is your favorite room and why? My favorite “room” would be Nora’s little nursery. It has a crib, a bookshelf, and trendy decor in one tiny space.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? The last purchase for our tiny home was pillow covers from Pottery Barn, but we got them at Goodwill!
Any advice for creating a home you love? Design your home for you and your style. There are so many different amazing homes on social media that can make you feel like your home isn’t enough… but designing your home with your heart and what you feel is right makes for a happy home!
