This 215-Square-Foot Paris Apartment Is the Definition of a Hidden Gem
“I was living in Le Marais, but wanted to explore a less expensive neighborhood, so my focus turned toward Montmartre in the north of the city,” begins Sara Wynn, a textile designer who runs her own textile education workshop brand, Atelier Red. She had been looking for a new apartment for a few months when she found this apartment’s vague listing online.

“[T]here was only one photo: a small corner of the apartment where I could see part of a green wall and a peep of herringbone floors. There were no more photos, but my gut said this was the one. Any apartment with green walls is okay with me!” Sara writes.
“It is quite a small apartment, but the layout and size are perfect for one person. The building used to be a hotel that the builders of Sacré Cœur Cathedral stayed in, and I believe you can see that in the architecture of each apartment. If you look closely, you can see how it was a hotel room: just one living space and a wall to separate the bed. The fireplace is covered now, but if you use your imagination, you can see the historic floor plan,” Sara continues.
“I am convinced this apartment was a hidden gem waiting for me, and I feel very lucky to live here. I can hear the bells of Sacre-Cœur every day, ringing at 7 a.m., 11 a.m., 3 p.m., and 6 p.m. I think back to the people who created the cathedral who once lived in the same space I do.”
