I think it’s cute when realtors refer to homes as jewel boxes. Now, I’m going to take the liberty of calling this turquoise-painted abode for sale a glittering jewel box. Situated on a quiet street in New Orleans, the home is what’s called a “shotgun house,” which is an architectural style thought to have originated in the South. These narrow, rectangular abodes are usually only 12-feet wide and about six rooms deep — the name is said to come from the idea that a bullet shot through the front door could fly clean through the house and out the open back door. This little shotgun shines with century-old charm, and its new owners are going to be a very lucky bunch.

The circa 1901 house flaunts overwhelmingly attractive curb appeal. From the street, there’s so much decoration to admire, from black-painted shutters to delicate window trim.
