Why we have a crush on this property

I think it’s cute when realtors refer to homes as jewel boxes. Now, I’m going to take the liberty of calling this turquoise-painted abode for sale a glittering jewel box. Situated on a quiet street in New Orleans, the home is what’s called a “shotgun house,” which is an architectural style thought to have originated in the South. These narrow, rectangular abodes are usually only 12-feet wide and about six rooms deep — the name is said to come from the idea that a bullet shot through the front door could fly clean through the house and out the open back door. This little shotgun shines with century-old charm, and its new owners are going to be a very lucky bunch.

The circa 1901 house flaunts overwhelmingly attractive curb appeal. From the street, there’s so much decoration to admire, from black-painted shutters to delicate window trim. The backyard, meanwhile, is poised to become a verdant garden, and offers room for both a potting shed and a small patio for al fresco dining.

Inside, you’ll find tall ceilings and transom windows. What sticks out to me the most is the main living area you’re greeted with upon entering through the front door. It feels spacious, thanks to that aforementioned ceiling height, and boasts a decorative fireplace mantel. Toward the back of the house, the airy eat-in kitchen is another show-stopping room, with an exposed brick chimney, open shelving, and lots of space for a big central island.
