This 237-Square-Foot Manila Studio Apartment Uses IKEA Pieces in the Chicest Ways
“This studio unit was purchased in raw, unfinished condition,” begins designer Mabel Bautista, who explains that the 237-square-foot space hadn’t had any interior work completed at all when she was tasked with transforming it. There were “no painted walls, electrical wirings, fixtures, or flooring,” Mabel continues of the space that was completely bare, “offering a blank canvas ideal for customization or full renovation to suit personal preferences and design plans.”
Mabel explains that this corner studio unit, located on a high floor, was designed with short-term rentals hosting in mind. “Every piece of furniture was carefully selected for functionality, offering built-in storage or dual-purpose use — making the most of the compact space. The layout emphasizes efficiency without compromising style,” she writes.
But while it’s not currently a full-time home, it easily could be, with how cleverly it was designed, despite the small square footage. “The owner envisioned a clean and functional space that prioritized simplicity and budget-conscious choices — without compromising on style,” Mabel continues.
“Every design decision was made with intention, focusing on affordability, practicality, and aesthetic appeal. The result is a cozy studio that feels both modern and inviting, proving that great design doesn’t have to come with a high price tag.”
