Sharing just 250 square feet with another person might sound like a sacrifice — but that’s not the case for Lydia, a YouTuber and composer, and her partner. Their teeny London studio apartment somehow fits two work-from-home setups, a dining area, and even a piano — all within a single, tiny room.

Despite the couple's tiny home (and the fact that it's technically just all one room!), they can host guests because their couch is a futon. Yes, even in a 250-square-foot home they can actually host overnight guests. "It goes to show that if there’s a will, there’s a way," Lydia quips.

There’s also a lofted bedroom tucked above, plus an organized entry that greets them when they first walk in — proof of just how much function they’ve managed to pack into such a small footprint.

Despite the small floor plan, Lydia was intrigued by the architectural charm of the little London flat.

"They always ask how a couple manages to live in such a small space," writes Lydia, whose YouTube channel is @thelydshow.

“We were determined to have the full ‘London’ experience, and wanted to live in a historical flat with preserved features while also not breaking the bank. Our flat is extremely small, but we truly feel that the character makes up for it,” Lydia writes.

"The windows are the original single-glaze glass windows. There were some cracks in them that we had to fill, but we wanted to keep the original windows," Lydia writes.

“I was sold on the mantel fireplace, the big sash windows, and, honestly, the stainless steel kitchen countertops,” she continues, although some of those features were a bit under-highlighted by the previous tenant. “There were strange decals on the wall and hideous blackout curtains in the loft space,” she explains.

The bathmat is from Amazon U.K.

When the couple moved in (they were actually living in another studio in the same building before!), they tore down the curtains and ugly blinds, and opted instead for neutral, cream-colored furniture layered with pops of color.

In order to fit so many functions into the space without it feeling overwhelming or cluttered, they kept to a pink/orange color palette (which also helps contrast with the “long and gray London winters”). “We wanted the space to feel airy, but also cozy.”
