This $2500 Per Month Rental Loft Is Marvelously Monochromatic
Robert F Samuels Jr. (who goes by Bobby Trendz), has been renting this 1017-square-foot loft for three years. His rent is $2500 a month and he spent about $40k to completely furnish the unit, and he tells AT about his home: My home, as I refer to it, is known as “The Trendz Gallery,” known for its black-and-white minimalist but luxurious aesthetic; it includes architectural elements, patterns, contemporary art, and mid-century design infused with modern concepts and heirlooms that create exquisite formations within Trendz Gallery.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Cozy, chic, minimalist, industrial, monochromatic
My home is 100 percent a reflection of me. From the monochromatic design that includes black, white, and gray to the warm tones with wood finishes expresses my mood most often. The industrial finishes and minimalist design reflect my love for vintage and antique clothing and accessories… also my appreciation and attention to detail. And art reflects the color in my life.
What is your favorite room and why? My favorite room is my bedroom. It is upstairs, which I call my “little tree house.” It is a well-curated space with wood tones and black and white finishes. Also, it includes the industrial column, cement finishes, and pillars from the authentic industrial design of the home. It’s warm and cozy, and I spend much time there.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? The iconic “Nelson Bench” by Herman Miller was the last thing I purchased for my home.
Any advice for creating a home you love? Your home needs to be something you feel, not just something to do. Please don’t rush the process. Take time to feel the space, create vision boards, take lots of pictures, and don’t be afraid to re-arrange or ex out what doesn’t feel perfect. Your home is YOUR sanctuary; it must be comfortable or, as I say, “cozy and chic.”
