Why we have a crush on this property

Many real estate agents and home stagers advise painting the rooms in your home in neutral hues — tan, white, and maybe light gray — if you’re planning on selling it. This way, bold color choices won’t scare off any potential buyers, and they’ll have an easier time envisioning themselves in each room.

The sellers of this circa 1880 house for sale in Buffalo cast aside that conventional wisdom, and thank goodness they did. The four-bedroom home explodes with color and personality, tempting buyers with its jewel-toned walls and furniture.

The historical home first commands attention from the street: an inviting porch and glass-paneled front door lead inside. There, the foyer flaunts a stairway with an intricate newel post and spindles, plus original pocket doors that lead to a deep-teal living room with a marble fireplace, built-in shelves, and lots of character.

The rest of the first floor features a decidedly modern open floor plan. An airy dining area and den flows into an updated kitchen, which offers plenty of storage space in the form of translucent cabinets, as well as concrete and butcher block countertops, exposed brick, and a sizable center island with seating. There’s also a rear staircase (my “Full House” dreams realized!) that leads to the second floor’s four bedrooms. Up there, the main bedroom offers a balcony with enough space for sipping coffee in the morning. There are two more marble fireplaces to be glimpsed, as well as a green-tiled full bathroom and lots of closet space.

There’s still more charm packed in this place, like in the side door with a transom window, which leads to the backyard patio. Oh, and the half-bathroom that’s tucked under the second staircase (!), and that ceiling medallion in the foyer. This one-of-a-kind home is listed by Britt Konczyk with MJ Peterson Real Estate for $335,000.
