A 300-Square-Foot Studio Apartment Manages a Sleek, Minimal Work-From-Home Spot
Name: Senaida Mehmedovic and cat, Benji
Location: Denver, Colorado
Type of home: Apartment
Size: 300 square feet
Time lived in: 6 months, renting
Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: I just moved here in August of 2020. The apartment is in a cute little neighborhood called “uptown;” it’s central to everything.
The apartment itself is 300 square feet, but the living space (aka everything that’s left when you don’t include the bathroom, closet, or kitchen) is 200 square feet.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Functional minimalist
What is your favorite room and why? It’s all one big room. (Hi, studio apartment.) But my favorite “room” is my closet because it’s a walk-in closet! I even managed to get a huge bookshelf in there to store all of my books (which is about 115).
All of my books bring me joy and serve as a reminder of all the work I’ve put in. (I’m currently a PhD student).
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? The last thing I added was my desk area/space! I bought the pictures in the frames off of Etsy from Volcanica Studio and Role and Co Designs. My “desk” is really a part of a desk I purchased from Amazon; I removed the top and installed it to the brackets I already had.
Any advice for creating a home you love? It’s taken me months to really feel like my apartment is like a home. Be patient, and be mindful of the items you purchase. Living in a 300-square-foot studio apartment has made me realize that you don’t need a lot of space; you just need a little bit of creativity and storage options.
