After moving from a shared apartment with roommates, Ria Sharma wanted this home — a tiny 330-square-foot studio apartment — to be a cozy haven for friends to gather, despite its size.” Ria has lived in this home for a year now, and says she’s “worked hard to make it both functional and inviting.”

“The decor is a reflection of my personality and interests. I’ve chosen colorful and eclectic furnishings and decor that showcase little pieces of me and the people who are important to me. Living in one of the world’s coldest capitals, I’ve made sure my apartment feels warm and welcoming year-round with a statement wallpaper, abundant lamps, and cozy touches,” Ria writes.

What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? "The last thing I bought for my home was a clear display ledge off Amazon, which I’ve been excited to use. I’ve been searching for a creative way to enhance the wall behind my couch without the space looking too cluttered, and this shelf provided the perfect solution. It offers an additional platform to showcase the things I love and already have, adding both functionality and style to the space."

“The style of my home also draws inspiration from my childhood. When I was growing up, my family’s home was filled with eclectic art, a variety of plants, and books that held special meaning. I’ve carried that comforting, eclectic style into my own apartment, striving to maintain a balance between personal charm and practical organization. Overall, my home is a lively, snug space that exudes warmth and reflects both my past and present.”

“I identify as someone who values creativity, warmth, and personal expression, and my home reflects these traits while honoring my traditional Indian roots. My space is vibrant and eclectic, featuring colorful art, bright patterns, and cozy elements like lamps and cushions that create an inviting atmosphere. Homemade pillowcases from India add a touch of cultural heritage, blending seamlessly with the rest of my decor,” Ria writes.

"Given the limited floor space in my apartment, it was essential to prioritize having a home office, as I work from home frequently. Unfortunately, the space allocated for a dining table in the floor plan became my desk area. To address the need for a dining table that wouldn't compromise the space, I found the IKEA drop-leaf Norden table to be the perfect solution," Ria writes. "I discovered the table on Facebook Marketplace from someone downsizing, which was incredibly helpful, as it was listed at a fraction of the cost. To make it fit seamlessly into my decor, I sanded it down and painted it turquoise with black accent drawers. This table is not only the ideal size for my space, but also doubles as a spot for my plants. Its drop-leaf feature allows me to extend or fold it as needed, making it versatile for both dining and hosting."

“My interests are always evolving, and this is mirrored in my rotating decor. Little tchotchkes from my travels, favorite books, and my first 10k sneaker on display showcase my passions and achievements. Growing up in a home filled with houseplants has influenced my current decor, and I’ve continued this tradition with an array of greenery throughout my apartment. Pictures and notes from loved ones are prominently displayed, adding a personal touch and reminding me of the connections and memories that are important to me. This dynamic and heartfelt approach ensures that my apartment continuously reflects who I am, adapting to my changing interests while maintaining a warm and welcoming environment.”

Ria has lots of advice for small spaces, like "having furniture off the ground and using taller or mounted decor can make a space feel bigger by drawing the eye upwards. And, of course, don’t be afraid to let your personality shine through your decor — it’s your space and should reflect who you are and what you love."
