Why we have a crush on this property

I love a good converted home. Converted factories, converted churches, and other spaces that have defied their original uses are full of lovable quirks. This former dairy barn for sale in the hills of Connecticut fits neatly into the lovably quirky category, thanks to some pretty snazzy features.

First, the home measures 3,600 square feet. That’s a lot of former dairy storage turned into living space: one airy living area, for example, boasts a wall of bookshelves, a wood stove, and an open staircase to the second level. Elsewhere, you’ll find more cathedral ceilings, skylights, and plenty of exposed posts and beams. The barn’s converted silo, meanwhile, has been outfitted with a home gym and office. What better way to separate work life from home life than a literal silo?

Then there’s the huge primary bedroom — with abundant windows, it’s a plant-lover’s dream. A spiral staircase in the bedroom leads to a bathroom with a clawfoot soaking tub, double sinks, and a walk-in shower. And while the kitchen is a marvel on its own (just look at that scalloped backsplash), it’s placed next to a wine cellar (!). Beyond it, there’s also a dining room and another living area that opens to a patio.

The outside of this one-of-a-kind home is just as special as the inside: a whopping 14 acres makes room for a heated pool, gardens, and trails to the Housatonic riverfront. Conservation land on both sides of the property add to its serenity: “A stream with the waterfalls makes for great background noise while working from home or relaxing on the back porch,” reads the listing.
