Why we have a crush on this property

There’s a town outside of San Antonio nicknamed “The Little Alsace of Texas,” because the people who settled the area mostly came from the Alsace region of France. Though the town’s actual name is Castroville, it retains some European-style architecture, like its famed Steinbach House.

While this house for sale in Castroville isn’t clad in half-timbering, it does boast an almost 200-year history. Built in 1846, the three-bedroom home balances old-world charm with more modern updates. Inside, the living room features a fireplace and built-in bookshelves, while a spacious kitchen offers an abundance of cabinets, plus some open shelving and an island with seating. There’s also an additional family room and a formal dining room in the house, not to mention two of the bedrooms come with ensuite bathrooms.

Floor-to-ceiling windows in the kitchen and sunroom look out to the home’s backyard, where there are old oak and pecan trees, a built-in pool and poolhouse, and a flagstone patio. A short walk from the patio leads to a river behind the property.

“The home upholds a perfect blend of historic character and modern comfort,” says listing agent Dolph Wilson. “One of my favorite things about this property is that you can enjoy nature and tranquility among the large oak trees that surround the home and the landscape leading to the riverside.”

The 1840s charmer is listed for $515,000 by Wilson, who works with Coldwell Banker.
