Matt Gregory and his 10-year-old yellow lab mix, Stella, have shared this studio apartment for three years: I toured eight studio apartments on the Upper West Side within a three-hour window and knew immediately that this was the one. I loved the exposed brick and the original hardwood floors — and the idea of living in an old ice cream factory was a bonus.

I painted the green wall when I renewed my lease after year one and I fell in love with the apartment all over again. Aside from my parents’ house when I was growing up, this is the place where I’ve lived the longest. It’s my home and I love it.

Describe your home’s style in five words or fewer: Colorful, playful, comfortable, welcoming.

What is your favorite room and why? Well, there’s really only one room. When I’m on a video call for work, I joke that I can touch my bed, sofa, and kitchen from my desk. It’s a bit of an exaggeration, but not by much.

Any advice for creating a home you love? I think your home should be a reflection of you and the things you love. But also, find a photo of your dream room, replicate the basics (e.g., the green wall filled with art) and then add pieces that make you happy.

Thanks, Matt!
