Why we have a crush on this property

This probably has to do with me being a native New Englander, but there’s something about a snowy December day that makes me pine for a historic house to call my own. Ogling photos of this 1857 cottage for sale in Newport, Rhode Island, almost scratches that itch.

Set on a narrow street steps from the waterfront, this little antique abode brims with charm. Step through its blue front door to be greeted by a small dining room, and beyond it, the home’s stunning period kitchen. Painted in a handsome shade of olive green, the kitchen offers an oversized farmhouse sink, a new stove with a hood, open shelving, brightly colored cabinets, and a small breakfast nook. There’s a door off the kitchen that opens to the property’s sizable brick patio, where there’s room for outdoor dining and lounging.

An exceedingly cozy living room is adjacent to the home’s dining area. It’s complete with built-in bookshelves and a step up to a small home office with beamed ceilings. Upstairs, there’s more office space on the second-floor landing, as well as two bedrooms and more ceiling beams.

They say good things come in small packages, and at only 1,098 square feet, the cottage is a small package. Its coziness factor, though, is off the charts.

The home is listed for $620,000 by Michelle Kirby with Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty.
