A few months ago, Andres Sandoval went through a tough breakup, and says he “had no choice but to hit the reset button. My 600-square-foot apartment became my canvas.”

The canvas of this modern one-bedroom apartment was bright white, but also without a ton of character, according to Andres. “I wanted to fill it only with things I genuinely loved, objects that made me feel something.”

The living room features the CB2 Sureau Antiqued Black Rectangular Wall Mirror, 36" × 48". A vintage lamp from Stuff sits atop a Fleur Tall Burl Wood Drink Table from Crate & Barrel. A similar-style rug can be found at AllModern. The living room features a custom sofa. A glass bowl from Tiffany & Co. adds a decorative accent.

Andres says he actually started “ordering furniture before I moved in based on the measurements and I started to get nervous that my choices may not fit the space well.”

After moving in, he also “started to find specific pieces at antique shops in The Mission. I was going through Facebook marketplace. I spent so much time finding pieces that brought me inspiration.”

"I added track curtains to soften a big window that has no views and used a easel TV stand instead of a wall mount," Andres writes. "For the dining area, I knew I wanted to fit as many chairs as possible, so I positioned the table at an angle to make the best use of the space without making it feel cramped. The angle creates a sense of flow and draws your eye toward the living space as you walk in." The space features the Halo Edition Mag 2 Sunset Lamp. The dining table is from Wayfair. The black dining chairs are from Overstock. The curtains are from H&M Home. The curtain system is from IKEA.

“Every piece carries a memory, and every inch and corner was considered, not because I was trying to create a perfect home, but because I needed to create a place where I could begin to feel whole again,” he writes.

The one-of-kind sculpture/light fixture is a Facebook Marketplace find from a local artist. "She made the piece from rooftop tiles and [it brings] a fun industrial look to the space."
