Why we have a crush on this property
What we wouldn’t give for the chance to flee to an ultra-affordable home in the middle of North Dakota. This fixer-upper for sale in the city of Devils Lake is just that—and with plenty of projects to keep its new owner occupied in isolation, to boot.
Situated on a quiet street near one of the town’s main thoroughfares, the two-family house is quite the bargain at $55,000. It was built in 1902, and has maintained much of its early 20th century charms. Outside, a front porch adds welcoming curb appeal, while inside, period doors, molding, and fixtures feel decidedly retro.
That’s not to say there isn’t work to be done on the property. Some decades-old shag carpeting is ready to be removed, as is the stained linoleum flooring in one of the kitchens. Both kitchens happen to be a real treat, with vintage stoves and some pleasantly outdated cabinetry. There are many elements of both kitchens that can be preserved—and we strongly encourage it.
The other improvements to be made are mostly cosmetic. Patch up some of the holes in the bedroom walls then slap a fresh coat of paint on them, and you’re in business. Use the second unit for an income property, and you’re in an even better spot.
