Why we have a crush on this property

In Albany’s village of Colonie, there’s a time capsule waiting to be unearthed—or, rather, bought. This red bungalow for sale is a relic of another era, with 1970s flair galore.

One step through the front door and it’s evident: wood paneling, floral wallpaper, linoleum floors. It’s all there. The living room promises more retro goodness with crushed velvet armchairs, oversized lamps, and a stone fireplace. The den, meanwhile, boasts orange shag carpets and shutters that open to the living room, while the bathroom flaunts avocado green fixtures and tiling.

The kitchen is in a league of its own. A turquoise oven and range! Laminate countertops! A caramel-brown vintage oven hood! A built-in breakfast nook with kitschy wallpaper and a hurricane pendant lamp!

According to the listing, the place has had the same owner for more than 60 years—an owner who happened to be a cabinetmaker. They built all of the cabinets in the house, including the maplewood ones in the kitchen.

But it’s not all vintage glamor here. The home had a new gas boiler connected in 2009. Andersen windows are installed throughout the home, and the roof is 17 years old.

This ‘70s fever dream dream is listed by JoAnne Leak and Phyllis Brookman with Howard Hanna Real Estate Services for $219,000.
