Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: My husband, Anthony, and I live in this duplex nestled in the heart of Brooklyn. We’ve had eyes for each other since middle school but didn’t start dating until after college! After Anthony popped the big question, we packed our bags and moved into this 10-unit building in budding Bushwick. Because there are a small number of units, we quickly grew close to our neighbors, especially in the height of the pandemic when we all had to stay home — so much so that we now refer to each other as roommates instead of neighbors. Living here has been one of the best decisions we’ve made!
Our styles have changed a lot since we moved in, and it’s hard for me to pin what it exactly is. Anthony loves mid-century modern pieces, and I love boho decor and pops of color. Our apartment is a compilation of us and things we love.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Boho chic with a modern twist
What is your favorite room and why? The bedroom. I love cozying up in bed, and from there, I can see my favorite view of the apartment, especially when the sun is just about to set and fills the room with golden hues.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? The branch above our dining table! I saw it laying in the middle of the road after a stormy day and carried it back home, where I presented it to a skeptical Anthony. We trimmed it down, stained it, and hung it over the table with fish wire and command hooks. I decorate it based on the season or holiday: paper bag stars for Christmas, dried florals for spring, lanterns for Lunar New Year, etc.
Any advice for creating a home you love? Include pieces that you love even if you don’t think they go together. Our likes and dislikes will change as we grow, but in the moment, if you love that boot-shaped lamp, get it! In essence, just be you.
