An NYC Apartment Boasts Sweeping Views and the Perfect Perch for Houseplants
Anshula Kesh and her fiancé have rented this 900-square-foot Rego Park apartment for two months: I love traditional art, and my fiancé’s taste runs toward more abstract/modern pieces, so our home had to be a reflection of both of us. We each moved from our own spaces to a shared apartment two months ago, so it’s been a labor of love decorating it to reflect both of our personalities and tastes. Our favorite part of the home is the clear view of the Manhattan skyline! The dichotomy of our tastes made for an interesting search for items that we both identified with and wanted to have in our space.
I am a vintage boho girl at heart, but my tastes are rooted in my South East Asian heritage. So we tried to incorporate elements of “home” into this home. Every object in our home has a connection to our roots and we were intentional in picking pieces that truly give us joy. We both like pops of color and repurposing things each of us had in our previous spaces — so each room reflects that common theme.
Describe your home’s style in five words or fewer: Welcoming, cozy, colorful, eclectic mix of new and old.
What is your favorite room and why? Favorite room has to be the living room — the views of the Manhattan skyline are difficult to resist! I think I even spotted the Statue of Liberty recently! The second favorite part of that room are the plants, of course. Like millions of others, I discovered my green thumb during the pandemic and had 40 plants in my last apartment! We have started small here and have 15 so far, I think.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? It’s our primary bedroom bed frame from CB2. It’s a beautiful leather and wood design and I fell in love as soon as I saw it in the store.
Any advice for creating a home you love? Look for pieces that bring you joy and you would want to have around you 24/7. I work from home now, and it’s truly a space that I inhabit constantly — so surrounding myself with objects that hold a draw is crucial.
Thanks, Anshula!
