Why we have a crush on this property
The year 1991 was a pretty good one. It was when Nirvana released “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” and slap bracelets could be seen on just about every girl’s wrist. It was also the year this house for sale was built in St. Paul, Minnesota. And by some stroke of cheetah-printed luck, the home has remained firmly in 1991.
This is clear immediately upon setting foot through the front door. Blonde wood finishes, teal and magenta accents, heavy drapes, and ficus trees act as ’90s-era exclamation points. The living areas are furnished with white and forest green velvet couches and armchairs, while oversized lamps and glass coffee tables complete the look.
The dining room is a treat with its padded maroon chairs and a tasseled chandelier. As a ’90s kid myself, my favorite part of this listing is the cloud paint walls in the kitchen that swirl in shades of teal, green, and blue. (All the forest green in here reminds me of my own childhood home, which was decked out in dark green carpeting throughout.)
The bathrooms and bedrooms have an extra special feature: Extremely ’90s Wallpaper. You’ll find magenta and green stripes in one bathroom, floral (with a matching floral bedspread) in one bedroom, muted pink in another bathroom, plus some wallpaper trim and marble floors in the other beds and baths.
The house is quite spacious at 5,750 square feet. The place has four bedrooms and four bathrooms, not to mention a sunroom, lots of home office space, several living areas and dens, a family room with a bar and a fireplace, and a rear deck — all not-so-subtly pointing to the prosperity of the 90s. This throwback could all be yours for a cool $895,000. It’s listed by Jim Burton with Coldwell Banker Realty – Highland Park.
