“When I moved in, the studio was empty other than a moveable kitchen island, and two rolling closet units,” begins Mackenzie Moulton of the 925-square-foot Downtown Oklahoma City loft she’s been renting for six months.

Mackenzie blended the 1922-era open loft’s concrete floors and brick walls with her own style vibes, something she describes as “1990s/early 2000s sitcom, old Urban Outfitters.”

"I’m not taking a traditional route as of now," Mackenzie begins of the decorating journey she's going on (and thoroughly enjoying). "[A]nd it shows throughout my design. Colors, fun patterns such as checkers, warm lighting to create a cozy atmosphere. My followers can attest, I move my apartment around about once a month just to see what else is possible! None of my pieces are performative; they’re intentional (and some with sentimental value)." You can follow Mackenzie and her apartment's design journey on Instagram (@macksloft and @mackstreetboys) and TikTok (@mackstreetboys).

While I’m shocked to be old enough for Urban Outfitters to have been around long enough to have a retro look, I do understand exactly what Mackenzie is referencing.

“I wanted to mesh everything I loved about growing up around that style, but also add a MCM touch to it,” she writes of the space she thought was beautiful the moment she walked in and “knew instantly” could make her home.

Mackenzie loves this corner where her IKEA Gullsudare lantern hangs. "It reflects off both sides of the windows at night, and created a vibe that can only be described when seen in person. However, when I'm cooking in my kitchen, overlooking my entire loft from behind my couch gives me Friends vibes, and I love it!" she writes.

Mackenzie isn’t currently sharing the space with anyone but herself, but is loving it. “Growing up, I moved around throughout the foster care system in Oklahoma; my sister and I were adopted to the most amazing single mother,” Mackenzie writes. “She can vouch — I have ALWAYS been into moving my room around, playing with new ideas, and creating a space that I love. I didn’t grow up with my own space in the foster system, so as an adult I’ve tried to curate it exactly how I want. Not for anyone else.”

Mackenzie added this DIY curtain room divider to carve out a bedroom area. "It’s been a great space-saver and adds some texture and height to my apartment," she writes. She also has used light fixtures around the apartment to visually define "sections."
