A 1964 Split-Level House’s Decor Reflects the Whole World

Name: Christopher Beecroft, my wife… and two cats who really wanted to be in the pictures

Our house is a 1964 split-level with four floors. It has a mix of mid-century modern-ish, Scandinavian-style, and inherited antique furniture. There is a wide range of art, including vintage concert and art gallery posters from the ’60s and ’70s, and some of my own photography. The decor and accessories are from all over the world (my dad was a diplomat) and pretty much impossible to define, except to say it’s a really interesting mix of items.

As for the residents, there’s me, my wife, and Cassidy and Raven, our two insane (yet adorable) cats. They (the cats, that is) were not happy about being kept out of the pictures I took of the house.

Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: MCM + Scandinavian + eclectic + “world”

What is your favorite room and why? My favorite room is the kitchen sitting room/area. People always end up hanging out in the kitchen during gatherings no matter how hard you try to point them elsewhere, so it’s great to have a large kitchen with its own sitting area, including a couch.

If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? I would change some of the ceilings. It’s not that they’re low, but the bedrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen, and kitchen sitting area all have unreachable or unusable attic space over them. It would be great if these rooms had high ceilings with skylights. That’s not asking for too much, is it?
