A 2-Hour After-Work Clean Routine to Maximize Your Summer Fridays
Abbreviated summer hours are a great perk in any workplace; they offer you the chance to get out of the cubicle and kick off your weekend early to enjoy some of the great weather. Or—hear me out on this—you could take advantage of the extra free time on summer fridays to get a head start on housework.
Before you roll your eyes and close the tab to get back to your margarita, consider this: Using your added leisure hours on summer Fridays to clean means that you’re basically giving yourself a guilt-free weekend. Some of your less-fortunate friends won’t get off work until 5 or 6 PM anyway, and by the time happy hour rolls around, you could have a clean house and a clean conscience knowing that the whole rest of the weekend is free for fun.
Here’s how to get it done in 2 hours or less:
3:00 – 3:15 PM
For the first 15 minutes, start on the laundry and dishes. Sort your things into the machines that will take care of the work from here.
3:15 – 4:15 PM
For the next hour, put away clutter and spend your time working from room to room and wiping down surfaces. If you don’t have time to make it around the whole space, focus on the kitchen and bathroom.
4:15 – 4:45 PM
For a half hour after that, sweep and vacuum all the floors.
4:45 – 5:00 PM
Then in the last 15 minutes, fold the laundry and put away the dishes. You’re done!
With just two hours of effort (during time you normally would be working anyway), you’ve set yourself up for a totally free weekend, and you’re ready for guests to drop by at a moment’s notice.
Now go have that marg—you’ve earned it!
