A 40-Square-Foot Van Is a Home Away from Home for a Couple, Their Baby, and a Dog

When there’s only 40 square feet to work with, you have to be organized. When it comes to van life, you have to be extra organized! Thankfully, Jessica Reynaud is an interior designer and was up to the challenge to renovating the tiny van she shares with her family.

She and her husband originally lived in the van for five months after their wedding, but now are based full-time on solid ground in Portland, Oregon. However, they still use the van to travel on the weekends and for smaller trips.

Describe your home’s decor style in 5 words: Eclectic, minimal, warm, boho, tiny.

What’s your favorite thing about your home? The little touches we added to the places we could! We upholstered the insides of the doors and our bed cushions with fabric from Morocco, put curtains over storage, and added clean light wood throughout and unfinished leather handles.

What’s your least favorite thing about your home? It’s so small that the kitchen pulls out, you have to stand outside to cook which is unfortunate when it’s raining!

What’s your best small space trick? Deep drawers and add storage wherever you can, under/over everything! We have storage under our bed, and there’s even an ice chest built into the front of our old van!
