My boyfriend and I purchased our vacation home in Lake Arrowhead after getting frustrated with the Los Angeles housing market. Sick of competing for over-priced houses we didn’t really like in LA, we thought, let’s buy our dream home in Lake Arrowhead for a third of the price. Being a 90-minute drive from our current rental, and seeing as it often takes that much time just to drive from Silver Lake to Santa Monica, we thought, why not?
I immediately fell in love with this home. The interior was covered with bright orange paint and wood paneling, textured ceilings and walls, dead insects and rat poop everywhere, but I knew she was perfect.
We spent a month and a half swooning, sweating, bickering and working our butts off to renovate the space, and each update just kept confirming what a special house this was. She just needed some love! [You can see some before photos on the cabin’s Instagram].
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Crisp and colorful.
What is your favorite room and why? My favorite room is the loft. Waking up in bed, you have unobstructed views of huge floor-to-ceiling windows that look out onto the trees, perfectly framed by the seemingly endless angles of the roof. It’s so relaxing, and impossible to get out of bed!
Any advice for creating a home you love? Don’t be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone. Some of the pieces and decisions that I wasn’t so sure about turned out to be some of my favorite things in our home.
Thanks, Giulia!
