August and Sara are college seniors who make urban-chic living in the cozy, rural town of Middlebury, Vermont look easy. Nestled in Champlain Valley between the Green Mountains and the Adirondacks, Middlebury College is home to quintessential New England scenery — thousands travel north to admire the spectacular fall foliage each year.

Amidst the rustic charm of downtown Middlebury — known for its local breweries, lovable book shops and delicious Natural Foods Co-op — August and Sara have curated a modern, eclectic apartment to call their own.

While the two have very different interests — August is a Film & Media Culture major; Sara is an Economics major — they share a passion for design. A visually inspiring home was important to both of them… and so was their collegiate budget. So they scoured thrift shops, repurposed old dorm furniture from the College’s recycling center, displayed textbooks as design elements, and invested in a few fresh staples. The result: a mod, economical home with clean lines, bold colors and plenty of New England charm.
