Our home is a Craftsman style semi-detached brownstone built in 1926. The character and charm of the house’s architectural details are what sold us when we purchased it three years ago. The previous owners made us PROMISE that we would never paint over the woodwork or coffered ceilings as they were original features of the home. Although I myself am more of an all white kind of gal, I have to admit that they do give the house its unique personality. The house is located in Montréal-West, which is about 15 minutes from the city’s downtown core on the west end.

Because purchasing this home was our lifetime investment, we had to be crafty and somewhat thrifty when it came to renovating and decorating the house. We removed all wall-to-wall carpets ourselves and painted the whole house (for some weird reason, every single room was painted a different shade of yellow).

We also transformed the kitchen ourselves for less than $5,000 with black stain on the maple cabinets, a new Silestone countertop (the largest part of our budget), black Wrap My Kitchen sticky tape to cover up our stainless appliances, a new black faucet and new brass hardware.

Most of the furniture we bought or brought with us is vintage and was either gorgeous as is (such as the teak pieces) or I transformed them with some paint and lots of elbow grease.

The result is happy, colorful, eclectic and definitely vintage. Welcome to our humble abode.

Thanks, Vanessa!
