Name: Diana
Location: Mile End — Montreal, Quebec

My partner and I rent a 900 square foot two bedroom apartment with traditional details in a 1903 heritage building in the heart of Montreal’s hip mile end. We love the juxtaposition of modern and colorful decor with traditional details like hardwood floors and wall moldings (very reminiscent of Parisian apartments). We also love the old school brass light fixtures and tall ceilings.

Our furniture is a mix of DIY projects, and recent purchases from Wayfair and Structube. Though we could never avoid it completely, I’m happy to say we avoided a total IKEA look while keeping it on the cheap. Our dining table, our bed, our daybed/couch, and our night “tables” are all simple DIY projects.

Our style is inspired by the traditional aspects of the apartment; we like contrast created by more modern pieces with pops of color. Additionally, we can’t paint the walls so we make up for it with a navy couch, robin’s egg blue dining chairs, and an orange bench!

I am particularly proud of my chair-turned-nightable which I picked up from a neighbor for free and transformed with a little paint, although my favorite space is the living room/dining room.

Thanks, Diana !
