“There are three tenants in this home, two of the people variety and one of the four-legged variety,” shares Taylor Clouse, of Love County Interiors & Design. “My roommate purchased the home about two years ago and I’m just renting. So, all the changes are strictly cosmetic at this point. The house needs a lot of love, leveling the foundation, new sheetrock etc. Alas, we are strictly making it cozy and livable in the meantime.”

Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: “I’m a raven.” — Moonrise Kingdom

What is your favorite room and why? My favorite room is probably the living room. I have a collection of art on the walls from people I care about and love — almost most every piece has a funny or meaningful backstory so being in that room just makes me happy.

“However, most everyone else would say they love the dining room because it’s unexpected and cozy. People are often over for dinner and the dining room is a perfect place for engaging conversation. Not to mention the color in this room changes a lot depending on the lighting and really makes people feel energized during the day or relaxed or moody in the evening. This room also has the most natural light which everyone knows is a huge plus!”

Which fictional character would be most at home in your place? Hands down Sam from Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom — when he’s grown up a little bit. With some vintage checkered linoleum flooring, we wanted to accentuate the character of this little bungalow and the spirit of the tenants. Since Sam is hands down my roommate’s spirit animal it seemed fair to paint walls and add accents that were playful and quirky. We have a bowl full of wooden chickens on the dining table and people always take one home with them when they visit for the first time.

Any advice for creating a home you love? Don’t feel bad about keeping things you like.

Thanks, Taylor!
