Name: Lisa, Colin, their baby Eliot and two cats
Location: Italian Village — Columbus, Ohio
The basics: Six years, owned — 1,084 square feet

Lisa and her family have rooted down into this eclectically furnished home. With soft colors and carefully collected pieces, it is a warm and welcoming space infused with plenty of charm.

Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: Our family consists of husband and wife team Colin (brewer) and Lisa (wedding planner). We live with our two middle-aged cats and fresh little baby girl (Eliot, aged two months).

The house is situated in Italian Village, a historic district near downtown Columbus, Ohio. It was built pre-1900 (no idea how pre-, public records were destroyed in a fire so we just know it’s old). It’s one of the original houses on our street but was completely renovated within the last ten years or so (just before we purchased it).

What is your favorite room and why? The kitchen! We re-did the entire space last year with custom cabinets, marble mosaic backsplash, extra deep stainless sink, quartz countertops and cheerful bright green walls.

We spend several hours a day cooking meals, mixing cocktails and washing the baby in the sink — so it’s awesome that it functions so well for our family now.

If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? A garage! We’re the only house on the block without off-street parking, and it gets really busy in the area due to bar/restaurant traffic, community events, etc. We also have very little storage in our house in general, and are forced to be creative with things like off-season clothes, camping gear, gardening equipment, and beer cellar.

What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? The nursery is the most recent update to the house! It’s been fun piecing together the elements in her room (vintage Charley Harper print, Edward Gorey lithograph, and floral bunting from my baby shower. Gold metal crib and black/white rocking chair are from Land of Nod.

Which fictional character would be most at home in your place? We instantly thought of Apple from Turbo Kid — she’s a perpetually enthusiastic girl android. She’s whimsical and earnest and delightful.

Lisa’s words of wisdom: Have a place for everything! We love collecting and curating the things in our home, but we try to be really mindful about how we’ll use a certain item first — if we aren’t sure that it’ll make something better (functionally, aesthetically) then we don’t buy it. This ensures that everything in our house brings us joy rather than frustration.

Thanks, Lisa!
