I bought my first home a year ago, where I now live with my partner Adam. This came after 16 years of house-sharing so I couldn’t wait to unleash my creativity on it after living so long with magnolia walls! My house is a Victorian two bed terrace just outside the centre of Manchester, England.

I had an extremely limited budget, so I have sourced lots of pieces on Gumtree and eBay, and friends and family have also kindly donated some items of furniture (I transported the chandelier on the megabus all the way from my friend’s house in London!). I learnt how to make some basic cushions and lampshades and used fabric on old canvas frames to create wall hangings.

I would say my style is quite eclectic and I have a real love for patterns and bold colors. The style of my house seems to have developed as I have gone along and is still a work in progress!

My favourite room is probably the the living room with its big fireplace and the dark grey walls, which make it feel really cosy and homely, especially in the evenings.

My most-loved item is the old Victorian bureau in the front room which belonged to my Great Aunt and Uncle, and I love the contrast of the dark wood against the blue walls.

Thanks, Ruth!
