This gorgeous duplex for a family of six has some incredible window action going on. Gaurav and Vidhita Kharkar created a space that is modern and sophisticated but exudes a welcoming warmth.

From Gaurav and Vidhita: This three bedroom, sea-facing apartment is home to a family of six. Spread over 2,000 square feet across two levels, the residence exudes warmth and liveliness.

The layout configuration is such that the lower level has the living and dining room, with a double height window, kitchen, puja room, powder toilet and the parent’s bedroom. The upper level has a lobby which leads to the spacious master bedroom on one side and the kid’s bedroom on another side.

As architects it was a challenge for us to design this apartment as the client had a rare requirement wherein he requested that we come up with as many layers as possible to create a contemporary home, simple yet detailed in a modern way. We had done lot of brainstorming on the layout to ensure that the staircase didn’t hinder the double height of the living room.

The living and dining areas enjoy the advantage of double height, which also creates a small lobby on the upper floor. Both rooms, with their overlapping layers and interesting material palette, set the tone for the house.

The staircase ends on the upper floor with the small lobby that overlooks the living and dining room. The doors to the children’s room and master bedroom are right opposite each other on the upper floor, both replicating the veneer ceiling.

Every part of the house is different, but it is entirely tied together with common elements, with a subtle fusion of warm materials and unique textures.
