Name: Laura Hofenk and 2 cats, Jisse and Jaro
Location: Wageningen, the Netherlands
Size: 600 square feet
Years lived in: 9 months, renting

In April 2018 I moved to this apartment with a modern anthracite [gray-colored] couch and boring gray carpet. But at some point I started collecting vintage from the ’60s and ’70s, and then I decided to go all the way with this style. Now I’m literally living like they did in the ’70s.

When you walk inside my home, you’re going back in time 50 years. I’m listening to vinyl nonstop, I watch TV in black/white, and take telephone calls from my orange ’70s phone. You will find little modern stuff in my home. So it’s not just a bit vintage, it’s ALL vintage! I collected all this in just six months.

Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Seventies, sixties

What is your favorite room and why? My living room, because of the crazy wallpaper and all the orange stuff. There is nothing modern over here. I love to chill on my ’70s couch with my cats, coffee in vintage tableware, and Queen on the turntable.

If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? I wish I could live in the ’70s for real, for one week. Riding in an old car, without a mobile phone. I would love to wear clothing from that period and dance the way they did 50 years ago.

What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? An awesome orange Brabantia ashtray for cigarettes. I don’t smoke at all, but hey, it’s ’70s! I have chocolate cigarettes for visitors.

Which fictional character would be most at home in your place? The whole ABBA group, haha. They would love to be over here!

Any advice for creating a home you love? Buy what you love. The stuff in my home is making me smile every single day.

Thanks, Laura!
