Name: Deepali, her husband and their 2 kids
Location: Portland, Oregon
The basics: 12 years, owned — 1,800 square feet

Deepali’s home balances striking textiles with, well, kids. Creating a home that is as visually interesting as it is welcoming to all ages, she has created rooms that look lovingly lived in.

Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: This was the first home my husband and I purchased 12 years back. Now we live here with two kids, ages two and eight. We love our sweet nest, which is kid friendly and filled with various textures and keeps my love for textiles alive. Each nook and corner in the space is filled with textiles that reflect my true love for old traditions of India: washed looks that are easy to take care of!

What is your favorite room and why? Living room — a lot happens here! Entertaining, kid’s play dates and movie nights! The long sectional filled with pillows, piles of rugs, poufs and floor cushions mean plenty of space for everyone! There’s not much in the way of square footage—but a lot of cozy!

What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? The washed rug for the kitchen floor. To get the floor tiles removed would be very expensive, the washed rug was an instant update!!

Which fictional character would be most at home in your place? Kelly Kapoor!

Deepali’s words of wisdom: Just go with the flow, shop for a few pieces that are an investment and will be passed on to your kids. Travel finds are the best! They remind you of how fulfilled your life is. Never let any rules rule you.

Thanks so much, Deepali!
