We bought our 1970s bungalow almost six years ago and we’ve been renovating it ever since, from the roof to the basement. Our biggest and most challenging project was definitely the kitchen. My husband, who is quite handy but no professional carpenter, decided to make all the hardwood cabinets by hand. We’ve spent practically every weekend of the last three winters on this project, since the summers were used on outdoor projects like renovating the pool and the roof or building the shed. Let’s just say that with two young children, we had our hands full.

The first winter was spent demolishing the old kitchen and building and installing the lower cabinets. The second winter was spent on the electrical work and building and installing the upper cabinets and painting the room. Finally, last winter we installed the ceramic floor and backsplash, all the molding and the open shelves. Now that it’s all finished, I can say that my husband fulfilled all my Pinterest dreams: herringbone floor, wine rack, subway tiles, iron brackets, etc. He’s quite a man I tell you, and I’m so proud of him. Hard to realize that when we started all this, my baby boy was a one year old in diapers and now he’s four and dancing all around the kitchen!

Thanks, Émilie!
