My husband Keaten and I have always dreamt of buying a beach house on the Oregon coast. When the opportunity came, we jumped on it and bought a small, very outdated cottage built in the ’60s with a ton of potential. The cottage is only a few steps to the beach, which is our dream. The Oregon coast is something so special with the huge evergreens coming together with the salty shores.

After six months of renovations, the cottage is now airy, bright, and based off mid-century modern design while still keeping some cozy cottage touches such as the shiplap walls and brick freestanding fireplace. We wanted to create a bright and clean space that still felt warm and inviting, and we achieved this through adding in subtle hints of color and thoughtful touches such as the live edge fireplace mantel.

What is your favorite room and why? The main room. The floor-to-ceiling windows let in so much light and we are super obsessed with the white brick fireplace. It’s such a nice feeling to come home to after a long walk on a moody Pacific Northwest beach.

We love the open concept floor plan and how the kitchen and living room are combined. It makes hosting so fun because everyone can be together.

If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? Since we bought the cottage to remodel, we essentially did change everything! The one thing I was super picky about changing were the countertops and tile. I think tile completely changes up a space and makes a fun statement. We chose concrete looking countertops to add contrast between the fresh white cabinets and cafe-inspired backsplash.
