Name: Alyssa Low, Collin Koetz and two cats, Shiloh and Smalls
Location: Evanston, Illinois
Size: 1,500 square feet
Years lived in: 1.5 years, owned

Alyssa Low and Collin Koetz met in design school and got married in 2014. They live with their two Maine Coon cats, Shiloh and Smalls. After renting in Lakeview for a few years, Alyssa and Collin decided to buy their first place in Evanston. Being that they both work in Chicago, finding a unique space was equally as important as the location—an older building with original detailing, being close to the lake and L for commuting.

The condo they live in is a 1927 traditional courtyard building. Aside from its functional attributes, being a two-bedroom and two-bathroom condo, the icing on the cake were the barrel ceiling hallway, high ceilings, original fixtures throughout the space, and a lot of natural light (southeast-facing windows—great for Alyssa’s 100+ plants).

Both being designers, Alyssa and Collin have a great appreciation and an eye for the details and composition. Alyssa being more of a maximalist, and Collin a minimalist, they blend their styles with MCM furniture, eclectic decor, and various plants. Some of their favorite pieces have been inherited from their families: two Hans Wegner Kennedy Arm Chairs, a Cole Steel 10-drawer flat file, and a floor arc lamp to name a few. Being able to fill their home with memorable pieces creates a very thoughtful and personal space. All of these things have culminated in a cozy and modern place that allows Alyssa and Collin to kick back and relax.

What is your favorite room and why? Our favorite room is the living room because it’s the heart of our place. When we entertain, it’s where everyone naturally gathers. This room gets the most natural light and creates a nice ambiance with the cooler color walls and dark accent wall, and warmer tones from our furniture.
